September 7 -Huatulco, Mexico

Land at last!  We could not wait to get off the boat!  Huatulco is a seaside resort begun by the Mexican government 25 years ago.  It is beautiful, clean, and completely unfinished.  So much for government involvement!  We took a boat ride away from the port.  There are many bays and beaches - all beautiful and pristine and unoccupied.  Some of the beaches are environmentally protected.  It is amazing was that, after 25 years, there were many unfinished buildings intended for condos and hotels.  Also, the Mexican government chose a place that has no agriculture, no farming.  So all food items must be brought in from other areas.  Access to the area is limited.  There were many unfinished roads to go with the unfinished buildings.

A few pictures below.  This is probably not a place to which we will return.

  1. That's crazy, where are all the people on that beach?

    1. Interesting, right? Apparently we were there during the low season. Or the hype to build up this area as a tourist destination is not working. I vote for the latter - since when should the government run a resort?
